Prefab or custom
Iron fence panels come two ways. Prefabricated systems arrive powder coated in stock sizes and bolt and bracket together, so the install starts as soon as the material lands. Custom panels get welded in our own shop to match a design or an existing fence, and they go to the powder shop after we build them, which adds about a week for a small batch and two for a big one.
Both come powder coated in any color, or galvanized, and on both the pickets sit about 4 inches apart by code. Wrought iron and rod iron are the same fence: steel tube, powder coated.
Against chain link
A plain 6-foot chain link run costs $55 to $70 a foot. Six-foot iron runs mostly $70 to $90. Over a long back perimeter that gap adds up, so yards, lots and job sites go chain link. Against wood
Wood stains, dries out and warps, so it gets redone on a cycle. Steel under powder coat or galvanizing does not; the coating gets touched up where something scrapes it, and the steel underneath stays covered. Wood still has a place on a metal fence: wood slats woven into an existing chain link run are the cheapest way to get privacy.
