Location: El Dorado Hills, CA
Type: Rooftop fall-protection guardrail
Scope: 102 linear feet plus four gates
Material: 12-gauge galvanized steel tube
Mounting: plated to the concrete roof, following its slope
  • We built 102 feet of galvanized steel guardrail, 42 to 48 inches high, for the fire department’s live-burn training building.
  • The guardrail is 12-gauge galvanized tube with posts no more than 60 inches apart, plated to the concrete roof and following its slope. It has four 36-inch walk gates.
  • The roof had a 2 1/2 inch gap between the surface and the structural concrete, so we cut through the roofing and fabricated 28 steel channels to tie each post into solid structure.
  • The steel was hot-dip galvanized because the rooftop is fully exposed.
